WELCOME to the first slice initiative
First Slice by Fruitcake Productions is a platform designed to give emerging artists the chance to explore theatre roles they might not otherwise have access to. Participants don’t just perform, they also direct, design, produce and experiment with every part of the creative process.
Alongside productions, First Slice offers affordable or free workshops, courses and classes, all tailored to the needs of new voices in the industry. The initiative places the emerging artist at its heart, creating a supportive space where talent can grow, skills can expand and careers can take their first exciting steps.

FIRST PIECE WRITERS PROGRAM
The First Piece Writers Program was a developmental program where participants were guided step-by-step through the process of planning and beginning their own play. Over the course of six weeks, artists received coaching, feedback and creative support to bring their ideas to life. The program culminated in a showcase, where the first scene of each work was performed for an audience, offering participants the chance to see their words come alive on stage for the very first time.
