Five Celebrated students find themselves entangled in a web of uncertainty as they're summoned to bear witness to a classmates' poor conduct hearing. A palpable air of mystery envelops the waiting room. The weight of their words hangs heavy in the air as they grapple with the responsibility of not just representing their peers but facing the scrutiny of their professors and the entire university.

Follow these queer fem performers as they step into a space and time foreign to them to explore a slice of queer male history. Dressed in full Edwardian attire, these performers explore and bring to light the prejudices of time period.

‘The Wilde Kind’ sheds light on marginalised narratives and experiences within the context of higher education. By addressing the struggles faced by queer individuals, lower class folk and women in an Edwardian setting,  the play highlights their hidden desires, challenges, and the importance of acceptance and understanding. The work innovately merges classical literature of the Edwardian era with contemporary queer perspectives, intertwining historical settings with modern voices exploring the intersectionality of gender, sexuality, and identity.

So, don your suits and bring your favourite classic novel as you embark on a journey into a world where the past and present converge, and where the unfolding drama promises to be as intricate as the delicate dance of Wildean prose.

SHOW TRAILER:

Fruitcake Productions acknowledges the traditional Owners of the land on which we create, work and live; the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to Elders of this land. We recognise the past atrocities against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this land and the lost of language, communities and story due to genocide and dispossession.  Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.

We also acknowledge the role of English institutions past and present in global colonisation and oppression. As a company we aim to engage with and resist continued colonial structures within the theatre space and beyond. We thrive to make Fruitcake Productions a Safe, Inclusive and Diverse for Theatre Makers Everywhere.
